When working on a Sitecore scaled environment or having the Coveo server running separately from the content management server, you need to make sure that your Sitecore instance is available for external access in order for Coveo to work properly. One of the solutions is to enable Windows Authentication at the root website level on IIS. This solution requires a valid username and password to load the website content.
